I have been browsing your website. I will try where possible to support and promote the RNLI cause through my extensive contacts nationally. I was brought up in Staithes in the 1960s and 70s. I remember with fondness as a child the yearly lifeboat day activities. I moved to London in 1979 and trained to be a mental health nurse. I am now very well known locally and nationally for my work in the mental health anti stigma and discrimination campaign .I have also been priveleged to have worked alongside Ruby Wax in the BBC Headroom campaign. I also sit on a national panel to oversee work to tackle stigma and promore more understanding of mental health nationally. I will mention to the many people I meet regularly through my work the good work the RNLI carry out to profile the RNLI if that would be any help?. I now live back in the region and will try to attend the lifeboat day celebrations this year. I am very busy with work but coming back for that day will no doubt bring all the memories flooding back. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lee,

Great site!

I have been reading your site with some nostalgia and fond reminiscence. I was brought up in Staithes during the 1960/70s and spent my childhood there. I remember vividly Lifeboat day each year particularly the disco which seemed to end the weekend off. The weather was always sunny. I left Staithes to move to London in 1979 to train to be a mental health nurse. I moved back to the north east in 1988 and now work towards tackling the stigma and discrimination of mental illness. Much of my work has been in the media, TV and radio, ( you may have read my columns in the Evening Gazette?) and I have been priveleged to have worked alongside Ruby Wax on the BBC Headroom campaign. I never forget my roots though.

I wrote my autobiography last year which recalls fond memories of growing up in Staithes. I enjoy visiting the village when I get the chance with my children and all the memories come flooding back. Sadly work prevents me from coming through regularly. I hope to get through for Lifeboat day this year as it's been about 30 years since I was there on Lifeboat day!!! Best Wishes, Lawrence.

Hi there, do you still sell books and bits out of the station there? We're up there over Easter and I have some bits I'd like to bring if you can make use of them. Mary
