Lifeboat Tows Boat Home

The Staithes & Runswick RNLI lifeboat diverted from exercising on Monday evening to tow a fishing boat back to Staithes harbour after it suffered engine failure.

The lifeboat was exercising close to Staithes when, at 6:30pm, the crew noticed the unnamed 16 foot fishing vessel had tied up to a dan buoy, which mark lobster pots, with the occupants working on the engine. The lifeboat pulled up alongside and the skipper confirmed he needed a tow back to Staithes.

The lifeboat crew informed the coastguard of the situation and commenced towing the disabled craft to the harbour, arriving safely at 6:50pm.
