Lifeboat Tows Fishing Vessel Home

The Staithes & Runswick RNLI lifeboat launched at 2:40pm on Sunday afternoon to assist a disabled fishing boat that had a fouled propeller.

The skipper of ‘Emma Lou’ contacted one of the lifeboat’s helmsmen and asked for assistance, reporting that a rope was fouling the propeller.  After informing Humber Coastguard of the situation the lifeboat was launched.

The fishing vessel was less than a mile from Staithes harbour and so the lifeboat had the casualty in tow in less than ten minutes from launching. The vessel was brought safely in to the harbour at 3:15pm.

“From now until the end of the summer there are many Lobster pots off the coast and all boat users need to keep a good lookout for the marker flags and ropes that are attached to the pots”.

— Lee Jackson, a Staithes Lifeboat Helmsman
