Standby for Surfers.

Humber Coastguard asked the Staithes & Runswick RNLI lifeboat to go to immediate readiness after a surfer reported that two of his friends might be in difficulties.

A surfer told one of the lifeboat crew that two of his friends had gone in the sea to the south of the village. With rough seas and large surf he became concerned that he hadn’t seen them for some time. The information was passed to the coastguard and asked the lifeboat to be at immediate readiness to launch.

With the lifeboat crew dressed and the boat at the waters edge the surfers were spotted making their way back to shore. A close eye was kept on them until they were on dry land.

It was a rough day and it would have been quite tricky to reach the surfers. Their friend was right to raise the alarm, as he was concerned about them. Thankfully these experienced surfers made it to shore on their own and without injury.
