Lifeboat Escorts Fishing Vessel to Safety

Staithes & Runswick RNLI lifeboat launched at 5:45am on Monday morning to guide a small fishing boat into the harbour after the skipper became concerned about the sea conditions.

The skipper of the 18 foot boat called the coastguard to say he was concerned about landing back at Skinningrove because of the swell and breakers on the beach. Humber coastguard suggested that the boat divert to Staithes as the harbour is sheltered.

The fisherman agreed but was not sure of the safest route in and so the coastguard paged the volunteer lifeboat crew. The lifeboat was quickly launched and safely guided the vessel in to the harbour and alongside one of the piers.

The lifeboat was re-fuelled and ready for service again at 6:20am.
