Lifeboats Helps Boat with Fouled Propeller

Staithes & Runswick RNLI lifeboat launched at 8:00am on Saturday morning after the motor vessel Ranger got its propeller fouled with rope half a mile from the village.

The skipper of the 28 foot boat reported the problem to Humber Coastguard who in turn paged the volunteer lifeboat crew. Visibility was poor at the time because of fog patches but the skipper of the Ranger gave his position accurately, allowing the lifeboat to quickly find him.

With the help of the lifeboat crew the rope was cut and the Ranger towed into deeper water. It was found that the rope had been freed and the vessel carried on under its own power.

The lifeboat returned safely to Staithes at 8:30am.
