9th April Record Year of Fundraising for Staithes Lifeboat
Staithes RNLI lifeboat station raised over £28,000 last year through fundraising events, collection boxes and donations.
Accounts for 2006, recently received from RNLI headquarters, show that the station raised £28,134, nearly £10,000 more than the previous year. The main fundraising event of the year was Lifeboat Weekend in August, which brought in over £14,000. Almost £5,000 was received from collection boxes in the village and surrounding areas.
The money raised goes directly to RNLI headquarters central fund and contributes to the day to day running of the RNLI and its 230 lifeboat stations.
This is a fantastic amount of money to be raised at small station and almost makes us self sufficient. Without the public’s generosity the RNLI would not exist so a big thank you to all those who donated money last year.
The lifeboat souvenir shop next to the lifeboat station was placed third in the whole of the northern division for percentage profit increase on the year, beaten only by Whitby and Scarborough.
