Lifeboat Fundraising Record
Staithes & Runswick RNLI
Accounts for 2007, recently received from RNLI headquarters, show that the station raised just over £40,000, nearly £12,000 more than in 2006 which itself was an all time high. The main fundraising event of the year was Lifeboat Weekend in August, which brought in over £15,000.
There was an increase in the amount brought in from contribution boxes in the village and surrounding areas. There is also a collection box in the boathouse and lots of used books. Visitors to the station can take books and make a donation of their choice, this raised £7,000 alone.
We thought we couldn’t top the £28,000 raised in 2006 but for such a small station to raise £40,000 shows how dedicated our crew and helpers are. Even when times are hard the public still dig deep to support us for which we are very grateful.
The money raised goes directly to RNLI headquarters central fund and contributes to the day to day running of the RNLI which includes operating 233 lifeboat stations around the country and training the volunteer lifeboat crews who man the boats.
